Hello and good day, could someone please shed some light on what is called a statement of service. I receive this instead of a DD214, covering a four year period. Yet I was short for retirement the same four years indicated. Also Shows 21yrs service on my DD214. How do I use this?

A Statement of Service is given while you are currently serving and need to prove details of your current service (usually for mortgages).
When you end a period of active duty service, you get a DD214.
I am a bit confused. You said you didn't get a DD214 and instead received a Statement of Service, yet in the last sentence you said you did have a DD214.

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a Career Counselor. From a federal military service standpoint (not service specific) you may want to better understand how your Statement of Service (covering 4 years), might be used to adjust your active duty service date (ADSD), which is the calculated amount of ALL your "active" federal military service performed. There could be something there, or there couldn't. Check in with your servicing Personnel Support Detachment/Personnel Office--that where is it all starts for something like this.
