I read on a thread here that a soldier on Active orders can inquire about going Active under the command they currently fall under in the deployment and if there is a need for the MOS it can possibly happen! (Not guaranteed). I have spoke to my retention NCO back home and a local recruiter back home but going from Reserves to Active Duty is not something that will impact their numbers as recruiters and therefore I’m probably not a priority. I just want to see if there’s any other way I can attempt to go Active or keep trying with the recruiter and conditional release way.

This is what I read on a previous post from a while back and basically wanting more information on how true is this and how would I go about this or if there is documentation such as a regulation that I can read further.

"Some Army Reserve and Army National Guard soldiers who are currently activated can apply for direct transfer to active duty. You will have to go to the command you are under during active assignment and request it, there is no promise, but if you are in an MOS needed or if their unit is short they may grant it..It also depends on age, rank, and skill sets.. Also know that there is a chance you will have to drop a rank at first.." What is a direct transfer from Reserves to Active & what is the process? 2018-03-17T15:12:36-04:00 SGT Private RallyPoint Member 3456288

I am a Reserve soldier trying to go Active and I am currently on deployment. I heard that for officers its a tad bit different . For example I have to get a conditional release from the reserves and find out if my AOC is needed. If it is then I have to go through a board process. Now in your situation being "active" and deployed and moved over to the active duty side on a needed MOS. I am going to be direct and say. Ask , see what the active duty commander says. And then work with their S1 to see what the process is. I spoke with my commander and an Army recruiter. It was easy. Got pick of Duty Station and went straight to Germany.

Only warning I have for you is I lost My GI Bill. Guard said I didn't complete with them Army said they couldn't offer it because the Guard did. Catch 22.

I still loved it.
