I'd also like to know about good places to travel to while there and some good restaurants to eat at. Any advice would be appreciated. What information do you have about ADA units at Kadena AFB? For starters, you can stop by Kadena's ITT office. It's in the Community Center on base & they have tours going some where almost every day as well as they can help you plan your own or just give you information. There's an Outdoor Rec on base that does hikes & tons of water sports. The Kadena Marina in just a mile up the road on the ocean. You can check out kadenafss.com to find out more on both. There's also a website called okinawahai with lots of info. You won't lack for things to do! More likely, you'll lack for time to do everything you want to do! I've been here over a year & am just now getting out to do stuff over the next 10 days as I finally took some leave just to enjoy the island.Response by MSgt Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 5 at 2018 9:56 PM2018-04-05T21:56:06-04:002018-04-05T21:56:06-04:00Maj John Bell3516438

I's been over 30 years since I was on Okinawa, so I wouldn't hazard a guess about restaurants and bars. My favorite outside of Camp Hansen, too far for most Marines to visit and then drunkenly stumble back home. My running mate was a former GySgt mustang who was an "old" 1stLt. neither one of us was interested in getting hammered and staring at strippers. The bar had a free jukebox, with the best selection of Motown I've ever seen. We came there so often, and behaved like gentlemen, that the locals finally accepted us. We played "Go" (a Japanese board game), Pinochle , and Chess with the locals, and listened to tunes. The whole six months we were there we never saw the same stray Marine or sailor come back.

I put in a link, some of these places were open when I was there, some weren't but I never liked the places the American military or tourists went. Get to know and be trusted by some locals and you'll eat at good restaurants that the locals don't usually share.

If you are there during the season, go to the bull fights.

https://www.tsunagujapan.com/50-things-to-do-in-okinawa/

https://www.visitokinawa.jp/attractions/okinawa-bullfighting-ushiorase

Lots of good restaurants in American Village and a few hole in the wall places outside of gate 1 and 2. Traveling to mailing or orher asian countries is super cheap also. Just left there in February.Response by SPC Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 10 at 2018 3:52 PM2018-04-10T15:52:31-04:002018-04-10T15:52:31-04:00CW2 Private RallyPoint Member3565858

When not in the field, get out and explore. Go to the garlic house and enjoy CoCo’s at least once a week. Get scuba certified and as a prior 14T myself, there are worse places to be.Response by CW2 Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 22 at 2018 4:42 AM2018-04-22T04:42:28-04:002018-04-22T04:42:28-04:00SSgt Private RallyPoint Member5115908

There are some amazing restaurants on the way to Nago, and you should go to see all the beaches on the way to the aquarium. Bu the aquarium, there is emerald beach, and the aquarium isn’t too bad itselfResponse by SSgt Private RallyPoint Member made Oct 11 at 2019 4:09 PM2019-10-11T16:09:22-04:002019-10-11T16:09:22-04:00SSgt Private RallyPoint Member5374664

Kadena is ass. This place sucks. Its just booze and fucking lol. Unless you have a bunch of disposable money to go snorkeling or fishingResponse by SSgt Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 23 at 2019 11:11 PM2019-12-23T23:11:51-05:002019-12-23T23:11:51-05:00SSgt Private RallyPoint Member5433335

If I were you, follow mccs Okinawa, and the other facebook pages. I follow one for just Kadena, for the schilling center. Both have the free concerts, festivals, and other shit too. And try ramen, it's all awesome. Kyoto Ramen by American village is pretty good, and you HAVE to go to Cocos curry, that shit if fucking fire. And try the habu sake, it makes your face numb faster than other shit, and has a snake in the jar. Just get off base man, eat everywhere, it's all good. Go hiking, snorkeling, get a pilots license on base through the schilling center.Response by SSgt Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 10 at 2020 10:31 PM2020-01-10T22:31:52-05:002020-01-10T22:31:52-05:002018-04-04T20:26:27-04:00
