Will the asteroid be impacting within the boundaries of the United States? If so, has it decided to vote Democrat? Will it be requiring food stamps, gender reassignment, a Ranger tab, and if it is a 2LT, will it salute a 1LT? Were any of it's previously impacted asteroids members of the Confederacy?

If?? The earth and things hitting it were all here billions of years before we burst on the scene and will be here long after we're gone. I'd like to think we could pool our intellect and alter an impacter's path enough to save ourselves. If we fail, then the meek will inherit the earth for the sixth time. The one thing I'm pretty certain of is that the earth doesn't care one way or the other, it will still be here (for about 3 billion more years).

I am going with other. Any type of intercept would be advised regardless of what could happen. You can either make an attempt to take it out or at least reduce it's overall size and impact or let it hit the Earth and cause mass destruction. May as well try to do something about it.

Capt Richard I P. We should send the Spaceballs crew out to destroy it - Lone Starr, Barfolmew, Princess Vespa the Druish American Princess and of course Yogurt with his merchandising skills and Dot Matrix should be more than enough to distract and destroy the asteroid :-).
Then we can recruit or more likely incite Dark Helmet and Major Asshole to guide the asteroid to its doom.

They do it regularly. Last year I think, Russia got hit and India had a very close miss. Problem is, we don't see them coming soon enough to do anything more than watch most of the time.
