What happened to the PT patch?

I really don't see anyone wearing a PT patch on the PT uniforms anymore. I don't know if it's because commanders don't acknowledge it anymore or if it's because they don't acknoedge it as much in the reserves. I've always thought the PT patch is a great motivation incentive to get soldiers to do well on their PT test or PT in general..... Are they authorized on the new PT uniform?

I rarely saw it even on Soldiers who were authorized to wear it because it took paperwork, money to buy and sew on, and it meant extra attention. Many consider that patch to be the mark of the douchebag.

Everyone I knew (many moons ago) that had earned the patch, chose not to sew it on since if the next time they didn't get a 300 it had to come off, so to save themselves money, they just never bothered to have it sewn on.

The Army Physical Fitness Badge is still a part of the inventory. Many unit's 1SGs do not follow up on it being awarded (or any other awards for that matter). It should be awarded (paperwork is not an excuse as it is a commander's memorandum); it should be used both as a motivation tool and for recognition. These are the Soldiers you want running your remedial PT program. These are the Soldiers that should be released early because they have achieved at a significantly higher level than is required (this is coming from someone that does not have the patch...short guy can't run fast, lol).
I suspect that most Soldiers that had it on the grey APFUs have not taken the time or spent the money to have it sewn on the new uniform. Although its' wear is optional, I bet the Soldiers that balk at spending a few bucks to sew on the APFB would search the internet high and low to buy a foreign award if they were authorized to wear it.

I got it once and it looked good on an EER. Nowadays, if you wear it in the reserves, your branded a turd an a "kiss ass". Not saying it's right, but that's how it's been through all my reserve units...:(

I think most Soldiers get a chuckle when we see someone wearing that patch. On a separate note, the only one I've seen in the past 5 years was on someone who I thought needed to be taped.

I'm a MSG and still wear mine. Is an accomplishment and a pride to wear. AR 600-8-22 para 8-51 for more information.

I see them everyone now and even. I think its just the hassle of trying to get it done with all the other uniform stuff we do. When I scored my first 290 I asked about getting one and I was told to do better, I would liked to have had it on at least one of my shirts.

I recently presented 5 Soldiers the APFT Badge. Prior to the formation I invited my BN CDR and BN CSM to be there for the presentation. They came and congratulated each Soldier on their accomplishment. As we went down the line for each award, I told each Soldier that I would get their patch sewn on for them. If you earn it, you should be recognized for it. It should be worn as well in my opinion.

In my opinion that patch is absolutely ridiculous. I got one way back in 1999 and I never wore it.

Soldiers who score 270 or higher are presented a Certificate of Achievement along with the APFT Badge. Our BN CDR or CSM also participates in the recognition and presents them a coin. However, seldom do we see the badge worn. I think Soldiers should take pride in their achievements and go get that patch sewn on.

I've been getting a lot of response from people on this question saying that it's perceived as being a show off or bragging by wearing the PT patch. If I'm not mistaken the PT is AWARDED to to an individual for scoring 290 or above on APFT. So if something that is AWARDED to you for an accomplishment is perceived as "showing off" or "bragging", what's so different about the AWARDS we wear on our dress uniforms, or the Airborne, Air Assault, etc badges some soldiers wear on their uniforms?
