In 1861 the Confederate government was determined to be a new nation. They began issuing currency. In 1862 the middle day of the three day battle of Elkhorn Tavern was costly - 2 generals were killed and Col. Eugene A. Carr's valor would earn him the Medal of Honor in 1894. In 1865 the Battle of Wyse Fork would result in a Union victory.

More than one confederate state was issuing confederate currency as the capital started out in Montgomery, AL and ended up in Richmond, VA. The battles in the West at Elkhorn, tavern, Arkansas in 1862 and in the east in the waning days of the Civil war in 1865 at Wyse Fork, North Carolina were the most significant events of this day in the US Civil War,
