This after all was a major step in the birth of the modern US Navy which was transitioning from primarily wooden hulled to metal hulled within 50 years. The fact that in 1862 President Lincoln was gingerly approaching the emancipation of slaves which he tackled head on with force and eloquence in September 22 of that year which went into effect January 1, 1963.Response by LTC Stephen F. made Mar 6 at 2016 5:37 PM2016-03-06T17:37:47-05:002016-03-06T17:37:47-05:00SGT John " Mac " McConnell1359193<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Thanks for sharing Civil war history.. <a class="dark-link bold-link" role="profile-hover" data-qtip-container="body" data-id="563704" data-source-page-controller="question_response_contents" href="/profiles/563704-11a-infantry-officer">LTC Stephen F.</a>Response by SGT John " Mac " McConnell made Mar 6 at 2016 5:38 PM2016-03-06T17:38:49-05:002016-03-06T17:38:49-05:00COL Jon Thompson1359644<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I was selected to go to Fort Sill for part of the FAOAC in 1990 after I graduated from IOAC. Despite the overall lack of success, they proved that the armor plating was effective against canon balls. These ships are the progenitors of the mighty Battleships of World War I and World War II. The battleships lead to the development of Carriers. Now look at us Cruisers, Destroyers, and carriers oh my. All possible because someone got the idea to put some plating on a ship. My second choice, was Lincoln's proposition on the slaves.Response by PO3 Steven Sherrill made Mar 7 at 2016 10:16 AM2016-03-07T10:16:39-05:002016-03-07T10:16:39-05:002016-03-06T17:25:44-05:00
