LTC Stephen F.1354922<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>There were many skirmishes on this day during the Civil War. Two campaigns were being fought out in the south as well in Virginia and the Carolinas. March 4 was the day the POTUS was inaugurated in 1861 and 1865 for Abraham Lincoln and 1869 for Ulysses S. Grant. Seven years prior US Grant had been relived of command over a communication failure. <a target="_blank" href="http://www.civilwar.org/education/history/faq/">http://www.civilwar.org/education/history/faq/</a><br /> <div class="pta-link-card answers-template-image type-default">

Grant came as close to career dissipation as one can get while having an exemplary career. I think that proves the Lord's guidance & providential direction on the man.Response by SSgt Robert Marx made Mar 4 at 2016 3:03 PM2016-03-04T15:03:22-05:002016-03-04T15:03:22-05:00LTC Stephen F.1354958<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>To me the most significant events were the inaugurations which occurred on this day. "The election of 1860 was one of the most unusual in American history. In a four-way race brought on by a split in the Democratic Party, Abraham Lincoln's name did not even appear on the ballot in most Southern states. In the electoral college, Lincoln solidly carried the free states of the Northeast and Northwest. Breckenridge won the slaveholding states, with the exception of Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky in the Upper South, which went to Bell. Douglas, though he made a solid showing in the popular vote, only took electoral votes from Missouri and New Jersey." Despite this Lincoln was elected to two terms in office. The election of US Grant in 1869 was also providential since he was elected within 4 years of the ending of the bloody civil war which had divided this nation.Response by LTC Stephen F. made Mar 4 at 2016 3:10 PM2016-03-04T15:10:01-05:002016-03-04T15:10:01-05:00PO3 Steven Sherrill1355073<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div><a class="dark-link bold-link" role="profile-hover" data-qtip-container="body" data-id="563704" data-source-page-controller="question_response_contents" href="/profiles/563704-11a-infantry-officer">LTC Stephen F.</a> today you have too many important items to pick one, so I pick all. The inauguration of Lincoln to term two and both the inauguration and Relief of command for USG I would put as highest, but overall today is definitely an all of the above day.Response by PO3 Steven Sherrill made Mar 4 at 2016 4:07 PM2016-03-04T16:07:31-05:002016-03-04T16:07:31-05:00SSG Leo Bell1361913<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>It's hard just to pick one.
