The next most significant act was also by Lincoln when he issued instructions on surrender discussions giving LTG Grant wide-ranging powers on military matters, but reserving political matters for himself.Response by LTC Stephen F. made Mar 3 at 2016 1:12 PM2016-03-03T13:12:31-05:002016-03-03T13:12:31-05:00SSgt Robert Marx1350914<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>The draft instituted on this date in 1863 was so unfair that rioting occurred in the North, especially Baltimore & New York City. No one appreciates the ability of rich men to buy their way of service. By the time of Vietnam, the rich could just hide in certain reserve units or keep getting deferments by school attendance. I suppose that any drafts in the future will still have loopholes that can be exploited. The availability of weapons that can hit targets world wide means military draw ups had better be quick!Response by SSgt Robert Marx made Mar 3 at 2016 1:13 PM2016-03-03T13:13:52-05:002016-03-03T13:13:52-05:00SSG Leo Bell1352328<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Thank you for the history lessonResponse by SSG Leo Bell made Mar 3 at 2016 7:18 PM2016-03-03T19:18:45-05:002016-03-03T19:18:45-05:00SP5 Mark Kuzinski1353419<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Great Post!Response by SP5 Mark Kuzinski made Mar 4 at 2016 6:53 AM2016-03-04T06:53:20-05:002016-03-04T06:53:20-05:00COL Mikel J.
