On my last deployment, I had a morale patch made for my OCP ball cap. It has the mission name, my call sign, unit crest, and my rank on it. The rank is not regulation size as it is about the size of a nickle. I had the patch made to serve as a template for my Section Soldiers who also have the same type of hat and wanted to be able to wear a ball cap in around our section AO. My question is that since I cannot find any regulation that states we cannot wear the when not in uniform, would it be acceptable to wear in civilian attire? I would really like to wear this hat in my civilian clothes. Personally, I see it in the same classification as the black veteran hats that service members wear with the mini rank pins on them. Would there me a great squared away NCO out there that can provide some guidance on this subject for me? It will be greatly appreciated.

You can wear it in your civilian clothes, the only provision I have ever seen addressing civilian clothes is a reference in AR 670-1 to attire having to be in good taste. The head gear you describe is in good taste.
Below is an example of Unit pride headgear authorized by the commander for wear in the unit footprint down range..

CSM was there any regulation / reference for commanders allowing soldier to wear ball caps in uniform while deployed and in the unit foot print? Currently trying to figure this out for maintenance sections while on mission and in our shops

SPC(P) (Join to see) In our case the guidance came from our BDE, it was an effort to keep morale and esprit high. Initially I wasn't a fan of it ,but it was very popular with the troops and low and behold it actually reduced on the spot corrections for troops roaming around without head gear.

To wear with the uniform it's commanders discretion

There is nothing to say you can’t wear it with civilian clothes as far as I know.
