Then The saluting line began. After 3 or 4 weeks the LT would always move out whit us, and if he had to go do his LT things with the other officers he would always inform us ahead of time. He is now a Captain and loves to tell his troops about the fun shenanigans we played! My guys made up a discrepancy that needed to be checked out, in this case a faulty lube oil tank level sensor, that needed to be checked before we could fill with oil. The access to the tank is through a small manhole cover that is in the bottom level of the engine room. The sensor is on the other side of the tank on the other side of the engine room (the tanks span the width of the ship). So, they told me I had to take a flashlight, crawl all the across and check out the sensor (as only an officer could sign off on it). As I got halfway across, the light from the manhole went out as the closed the tank on me ! I fooled them, I went and actually checked the sensor, made my way back to the manhole cover and took a nap until they opened it back up. I crawled out, yawned, and slapped the paperwork at their chest and told them the sensor was operating correctly. Then I walked off and grabbed a cup of coffee. They thought, for sure I was going to be pissed. I wasn't, I got a nap in the middle of the workday! He'd certainly be confused and ask what's up, to which we'd say "Sir, I think your ranks upside down". Pretty much every LT fell for it. We were working the law enforcement desk one night and being the lowest ranking at the time, I had to take the trash out. While outside, I found a hedgehog running around some naturally being the resourceful airman I was, I caught him! I took him back inside to show the rest of the guys and they thought it was great. Then the idea to hide him in the Lt’s desk came up, so we did. When he came back to check the blotter, he heard something rustling in his desk, he opened the drawer and it hopped up at him! He jumped so high out of his desk, absolutely hilarious. He was a good sport about it though and wanted to keep the little guy, the morning shift’s Capt. made us put it back out side though. The sailor replied, "yeah, I got you, buddy." The ensign pointed to his brand new rank and explained the proper way to address an officer, then asked again, "now, do you have change?" The sailor came to attention, saluted, and replied, "No, Sir." SGT Gary Sokol Fri, 04 Oct 2019 13:15:33 -0400 2019-10-04T13:15:33-04:00 2019-10-03T13:08:27-04:00
