There is not a test. It's a board. Usually all the unit First Sergeants in the BN and the president of the board is the BN CSM.

The study guide usually covers common regulations that have NCO touch points like

AR670-1 and the DA PAM 670-1 because NCOs supervise soldiers , especially with good order in discipline aspects like appearance and uniform standards.

AR350-1 covering PT Tests. There is a TC and an FM on how to conduct and lead PT. AR600-9 and the ABCP.

Duty Rosters, Pass and Leave, etc practical questions on counseling and solving soldier problems. again the BN or BDE level unit establishes this so us gray beards on RP prognosticating on It isn't going to help your son.

Make sure his ASUs are straight.

I've seen units have a field board where the candidates have to demonstrate common tasks that NCOs run or are expected to do (20 level tasks for E5s as an example)

He needs to practice his "board knock" on a senior NCO's door and go find out.Response by LTC Jason Mackay made Sep 13 at 2020 9:50 PM2020-09-13T21:50:06-04:002020-09-13T21:50:06-04:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member6308009

Your son is an adult with an NCO support channel. He can figure this out on his own. In fact, part of growing up and being a leader is doing this on his own and not having his mom figure it out for him.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 13 at 2020 11:36 PM2020-09-13T23:36:17-04:002020-09-13T23:36:17-04:002020-09-13T19:20:46-04:00
