As well what should they do once they are out of the branch they were in? Should they apply to a job like Home Depot and show of where they were in the military? What do you think of the people who have been separated and removed during basic or A School?2019-05-14T22:04:37-04:00Ken G.4636176<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>My question to this is what do you think of the people who have been separated and removed during basic or A School? I think it was admirable that she went in, to begin with. Pretty hardcore to be messed up and still have a desire to serve. I call her a veteran because of her drive. She doesn't see it that way though. <br />People who wash out because their feet or feelings hurt got no business calling themselves veterans.Response by SSG Phil Miller made May 14 at 2019 11:46 PM2019-05-14T23:46:36-04:002019-05-14T23:46:36-04:00MSG Private RallyPoint Member4637232<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I think those that tried and failed: Well....at least they tried. It just wasn't meant to be. No harm, no foul. Unless they are trying to claim way more than what they did.Response by MSG Private RallyPoint Member made May 15 at 2019 9:50 AM2019-05-15T09:50:07-04:002019-05-15T09:50:07-04:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member4637428<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>No different than the other gents below said. They tried and failed, and if it;s medical it could be worse as it could even be out of their control. However once they start saying they're a vet or that they were in the service...well that's a different story.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made May 15 at 2019 11:14 AM2019-05-15T11:14:40-04:002019-05-15T11:14:40-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member4637514<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Well, if you go to college, but don't finish can you clam that you have a degree? If you have not finished and was washed out because you quit (don't care what their excuse is, they quit) then you are not a vet and there is no need to tell a prospective employer. If you were serving and got hurt and could not continue, then you served with honor and I will call you a vet and you will have a medical separation and should inform a potential employer.<br /><br />However, the military is not for everyone, there are some people that leave and that is the right thing for that person, so honestly there is no hard feeling from me, just don't call yourself a veteran.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made May 15 at 2019 11:46 AM2019-05-15T11:46:43-04:002019-05-15T11:46:43-04:00SGT Dave Tracy4637682<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>As with most things in life, the answer to a blanket question is: "it depends". Some folks quit; either because they cannot adapt but made a good-faith effort to try or because they didn't make a good-faith effort and didn't try. Some leave because they are shit bags who have no place in the military, period. Some people got too broken to be recycled or were too broken to begin with, but tired nonetheless but obviously didn't make it. I saw many different examples of both good and bad people who, for whatever reason, didn't finish the process.<br /><br />There are any number of reasons people do not make it to graduation, and it is the "why" that makes the real difference. As far as what such a person "claims" in terms of military service, I'd say that if it matters for reasons beyond egotistical reasons, just stick with dispassionate facts, but never(!) lay claim to a status never held. <br /><br />Rule of thumb: Don't be a "thank me for my service" kinda guy, especially if you didn't make it out of training!Response by SGT Dave Tracy made May 15 at 2019 12:37 PM2019-05-15T12:37:04-04:002019-05-15T12:37:04-04:002019-05-14T22:04:37-04:00
