I'm actually not completely opposed to this one. I think the guys in 1CD and 1ID should qualify for something similar though.

As a badge of distinction for the Caisson Platoon, it's comparable with the Tomb badge. Well deserved!

okay, what is next? A K9 unit will have also a Dog Badge, what about a fireman will have a badge that looks like a fire truck, and so on... let's get real what are the qualification requirement for each them?

As a former Old Guardsman I have nothing but respect for Caisson , CCG, the Tomb, et al. But if Caisson is going to get a badge then how in the hell has the USADT not been issued one?
The level of training and dedication it takes to be a member of the Drill Team easily deserves a similar level of recognition.
Again... I love and respect all of my Old Guard brothers and sisters... just an observation.

Because so few have ever adorned such accoutrements, I have never seen any beyond Arlington. I was once told that they weren’t to wear upon leaving the assignment, but I forgot the reasoning. I never pursued, thinking it was odd that the badge was earned by those whom walked the walk, but then again, it simply may be apart of an unspoken code within respecting those as a tradition towards the unknown dead they guarded and no one within the ranks would visually ever know they kept guard... Either way, much respect for those men and women whom have served in both capacities within Arlington, the final resting place for my immediate family, and so many of my brothers and sisters alike... God Bless those that have the ultimate sacrifice!

Snowflake badge. At the end of the day, the Old Guard is a ceremonial unit and this gives them two distinct badges for performing ceremonial duty. There are actual hard military skills that only grant a piece a paper and I am actually OK with that. I think what would have been a better honor in keeping with tradition for this type of thing is induction into a club or society, not a badge. The only reason they got this through is because they are so close to the flag pole in D.C..

As a former member of the 3rd US In (TOG), there are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes that you don't see. This is a well deserved badge. The time and dedication these soldiers put in to their work deserves the recognition.

I think its a good thing. I also think that since Most Army bases Has stables and horses that we should learn from the first 12 in Afghanistan and maybe start cycling troops trough and train them up a little on the horses because you never know when your gonna need to ride one in the military.
