What do you think of State IDs displaying veteran status? Does your State have it?

In South Dakota we have our Veteran status pointed out on our driver's licenses or ID cards. It's the same documentation that you would need for Veteran's license plates (at least in SD it is). Do your states have similar status's for ID cards?

Usually when you want to take advantage of a military associated discount you must prove your association. Retirees get ID cards (as far as I know), but those that don't serve the full time don't get anything (you can get a VA card, but in some cases this is not enough). Some businesses will accept expired military ID cards, but others won't. I think all states should adopt a program to qualify for special designations on ID cards for Veterans. Bring in proper documentation and have the status added to the ID you already carry around!

Effective July 1, 2012, the state of South Dakota will now provide a designation on driver’s licenses for honorably discharged Veterans. South Dakota now joins several other states which have added the 'Veterans designation' to their driver license making it easier for Veterans to prove their status at the numerous hotel chains and retail outlets that offer veterans discounts.

I've been hearing Idaho is moving that way. We already require a DD-214 for our vet license plates.

Arizona puts VETERAN on your license if you show military ID or your DD214. You can also get veteran license plates.

I'm from South Dakota and retired. I got the veterans status put on my drivers license. When I got the retired army license they did not ask for any proof of affiliation. They told me that they will verify before approving

Vermont now will include the word "veteran" on your license upon presentation of a DD form 214.

sounds cool. not sure if my state does but honestly it doesnt do anything for anyone having it there. maybe a discount at old navy once a month

We have it in Iowa, and I am proud that we do. People DO take notice when I need to present my DL in some given situation.

Massachusetts finally has a Veteran identifier on drivers licenses. Veteran plates abound, with some for fee and some free. Commercial Driver Licenses are also fast tracked for Service Members who can prove large cargo truck and trailer licenses. Heard there is also a new Excise Tax abatement. Things are improving on some accords.

North Dakota has it, didn't even know that was a thing. I will probably get it after my service is up. Couldn't hurt anything.
