As part of trilogy it might be good but it sucks as a standalone movie. But the It is pretty ok, not Lucas Star Wars, but ok nonetheless.
I will say on a personal note as decent as I thought the story line was, it just didn't feel like Star Wars to me.
This one fell flat too because the Lucas Star Wars could hit you with the omg moment from nowhere.
I mean the old Star Wars, even the prequels, could just hit you with something you didn't see coming. Like this one I could predict. There just wasnt any suspense.
They went for action over content, And left no mystery.
They were on to something with the Finn story but then Rey comes in and it's like we are done with you now. Time for you to just be a secondary character. And they did a terrible job of making me like Rey. Sorry she just felt forced Finn's story just seemed to flow so much better.
It all felt forced. This movie is awesome. JJ Abrams did an excellent job introducing new characters and making you care about them, while keeping the emotional impact of the old characters.
2. Abrams use of practical effects shines through the whole movie. The small details are evident throughout.
3. The dog-fight scenes are phenomenal. They are the one place Abrams really uses the CGI, and he uses it deftly, giving a sense of speed and maneuverability that the original Star Wars movies couldn't match.
4. You could probably enjoy this movie if you haven't seen any of the others, but you will be missing a lot. Definitely watch, at a minimum, Episodes 4-6 before watching this one.
5. Abrams definitely charts his own course, but watch for homages and/or callbacks to the original series. It has a lot of reminders of the old trilogy and it was worth the wait. My wife and I enjoyed it even though there are still many unanswered questions looming over this movie. I don't think so and I enjoyed it and can't wait for Episode VIII.

I am a bit upset that it didn't get into the rest of the Solo/Organa and Skywalker family tree. Han and Leia had a few other children. Luke also got married and had a son, also named Ben. I have heard talk that the new movie "changed" family lines and made Ben (Kylo Ren) Han & Leia's son instead of Luke and his wife.
I have ALSO heard conspiracy theories that Rey is possibly the daughter of Luke or Leia and Han. Not enough focus was spent developing the new kids. I had way too many questions after seeing the movie, and too many wtf moments while watching it. Overall it was good and I am looking forward to the next movie since JJ won't be directing it.
