Pamela Geller, head of the American Freedom Defense Initiative, wants to pay to have the winning cartoon from the Garland, Texas Muhammad cartoon drawing contest on DC Metro ads (at Metro stations and on buses).<br /><br />What do you think of this idea? Should we be concerned? Or should we be able to "weather this storm"? Is it worth it to take such a chance? Do we anticipate that there will be retaliatory strikes by Islamic fundamentalists if the ads go up? Strikes against innocent citizens?<br /><br />On one hand, I think Geller has the right to do this, but public safety does come into play. On the other hand, if it were pictures of Jesus (or urinating on a crucifix), people might object, but I doubt there would be worries of bombings or shootings in response.<br /><br />I was going to post the picture of the proposed ad, but I don't want to offend Muslims, so I'm not doing that. Instead I'm posting the aftermath of the Garland, Texas shootings. I wonder, though, if people would be so considerate if the ad were critical of another religious figure. If they are positive in nature about the Prophet Mohammed, then I don't see an issue, as it is no different that posting anything about Jesus Crist or any other religious figures. However, if it is negative in nature, such as we saw in Texas (I think that is where it was), then I don't think it should be placed up.
