What do you think of Crowd Funding?

I have seen a bunch of crowd funding campaigns recently. Sometimes I think they look like a good cause and sometimes it just looks like lazy people trying to get free money. What is your take on crowd funding? What is a good application? When is it abused?

Maybe I'll start a GoFundMe so people can hand me money to buy a house, cash-in-hand, because working hard for things is so last century. This is the new millenium, where 6-figure jobs should be handed to everyone that graduated from college and work should be fun, not work.

Entitlement for everyone!

I've see it used successfully in the game industry a few times, and though there aren't any very solid instances yet, I'm looking forward to finding out how successful some of these games are. It's exciting because It's a way for the gamers to decide what games are made, instead of just hoping the big publishers deliver.

Very exciting stuff for us nerds.

I have never donated to Go Fund Me, but I have to Kickstarter. I have seen some very innovative ideas, products, and companies reach their funding goal, all in effort to bring something new to the masses. Stuff You Should Know did a great podcast on them.

I think it is an awesome idea and it allows more creativity than just relying on what one given industry wants to produce. I have not donated myself, but thats due to me being a scrooge.

Know of one who is having his science Fiction novel published. He raised the money he needed vis Go Fund Me.

Like anything it can be good and it can be abused.
