This would allow them to bring people in as they wish and possibly take even more jobs from Americans. Furthermore part of our infrastructure.

How do you think this would effect Americans and the Country as a whole.

SSG Mike L, they'd have to get here to do that. Video games aside, China simply lacks the ability to project power. An amphibious or airborne assault launched across the entire Pacific Ocean? Please.
No, if they were to go after US interests, it would be through monetary and cyber means. I wouldn't want to fight a land war in China, nor would they want one in CONUS, but on the sea and in the air, we would crush the PLA in a matter of weeks, maybe days. It has gotten closer, but the gap in capabilities is enormous.

1SG, I did not mean a traditional land war ...I meant cyber attacks and terrorism on our soil....I agree we would crush them...no doubt... but don't forget they are becoming very wealthy and there are people in this country who believe in the mighty dollar not the mighty USA such as we do .. that is what I meant.....sorry for the misunderstanding

This has been a fear of many for a long time and why the ever-increasing borrowing and spending needs to be brought to heel. The longer they prolong the pain, the more it's going to hurt. There is no way the government can make debt payments in our current situation. If foreign countries start calling in the debt they hold, we are in real trouble.

Giving away our land in loo of debt payments diminishes the US CITIZEN's ability to pursue happiness. A realtor told me that the only asset that is finite is land, it doesn't grow on trees, it can't be dug out of the ground, and once it's bought up, less opportunity is available to the average citizen.

CPT Ahmed Faried You'll have to see the information I posted on your other post in this thread. CFIUS, it's already happening, but not the way some people imagine. No we can't blame or accuse BO of something that was even allowed under the bush administration.

Lastly, whether it's land or a business, I've lost a job because of CFIUS allowing the sell of domestic companies in the US. Foreign governments are happy to allow private business owners taking up residence in the US since most of the profits will be taxed when they are brought home.

Always ask yourself, "Is what I am reading setting off a bs meter?" It'd allow you to better sieve through the numerous tin-foil articles out there masquerading as legitimate sources. But per this question, China can demand a softball field and nothing will come of it. There is no US territory that will be given up in payment of a debt. For one no President will allow it (yes, even President Obama for those of you out there. You know who you are), secondly our other two Branches of government will have their say and it will be an emphatic no and thirdly the will of the people cannot be discounted. We may rag on our fellow states; "liberal coasts" "flyover middle" "bible-belt south" "florida" but it is a totally different thing to try to separate us from one another. I do believe a bloody war was fought over such an attempt. China can go pound dirt. This is a non-story.

Unfortunately, it's already allowed through The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). Highway systems (toll roads) have been sold to foreign investors.

"Last year (2005), the city sold a 99-year lease on the eight-mile Chicago Skyway for $1.83 billion. The buyer was the same consortium that leased the Indiana Toll Road — Macquarie Infrastructure Group of Sydney, Australia, and Cintra Concesiones de Infraestructuras de Transporte of Madrid, Spain."

Chicago used the money to pay off debt and fund road projects. Skyway tolls rose 50 cents, to $2.50; By 2017, they will reach $5.

But that applies to business dealings with private individuals not States. We may have an overly partisan government (Re: letter to Iran, Netanyahu etc) but we are not completely asleep at the wheel yet. A few years ago a Chinese company with stromng links to their government tried to make inroads to purchase some communications Company in the US and the Senate shot it down. Where we know our interests might be affected (i.e China having backdoor access to our intel through a "benign" purchase) we are able to put an end to it.

Florida? I know it's a crazy state but did you have to only mention Florida? What about Ohio and Texas? Plenty of crazy there too.
But seriously, not sure it could happen. There is no precedent for something like that. Even embassies aren't "foreign soil" like many people believe.

I honestly would not put anything past this administration. There is a ton of corruption. Maybe I was blind when I was younger but there is a bunch of madness in D.C. right now.

I have been learning how to speak mandarin for the last 3 months on Rosetta Stone. It would take a decade just to be able to converse and maybe 25 years to learn how to read a Chinese newspaper.

I'm always amazed at people's inability to understand the basics of national debt. This article is so nonsensical.
