What do you think about Obama's choice for the New Service Secretary to lead the Army? Why does the headline have to read "gay?"

Why can't it the news just report "Obama chooses New Secretary to lead the ARMY? Why does the headline have to have the word "GAY?"

Like so many headlines, it seems to be important for the main stream media to use words like "black" "gay" "transgender" as if to make it a big deal. What happened to just the "human being?"

Because somebody wants to stir up more strife is why it says "Gay". People just can't live and let live. I am a Christian and I don't agree with that lifestyle, but I have homosexual friends. They know how I feel about their lifestyle, but that doesn't stop our friendship. They are some of the greatest people I know and I love them and always will. They don't try to change me, I don't try to force any belief on them; we are simply friends.

Well unfortunately that sells far more than not saying it. Controversy, like sex, sells articles. Even though there is almost no controversy over this, the media is still reporting it in a way to try to make some.

I believe that President Obama wishes to leave a "legacy." Not only is he the first black prez, but he appointed MANY women and MANY minorities to high positions in government to show how "democratic" he is. Some have proved to be good choices (qualified and apt) and a few have been shown not-so qualified. Of course, that scenario has played with all appointees throughout all the presidencies. Obama simply wants to cement his relationship with minorities and fringe groups and to "look good," to his various constituencies.

If the guy is qualified, I don't think they should have even raised the issue of his preferences...does the media want a fight over it? Can't they find something truly newsworthy to report on?

The media has to further their political agenda while trying to attract readers for profitability--ironically without thought to integrity or reliability. As far as I can tell, Eric Fanning is a fully qualified civilian leader. Leader is the only label I care to look at. I am disappointed by my peers and friends that are quick to discount his service to our nation and perceived capacity to lead because of his lifestyle.

I don't care if he is gay or not. I think that a few prerequisites were looked over though. LIKE THE FACT THAT HE HAS NEVER SERVED IN THE ARMY.

Sensationalism by the media. It gets more clicks and viewers. Causes some noise when it otherwise wouldn't. All for ratings.

Sgt Mays - Its because he's GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY! Gay people represent a minority in the USA. And given the homophobic landscape the US has - it's kind of a BIG DEAL.
