They still have to be between over the ankle and calf length.

Some people are mad that the army wasted time and resources to make this decision. Hopefully they clarify this a little better when the next AR 670-1 comes out. I am in favor of the Army picking a color and staying with it. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 06 Nov 2015 11:56:43 -0500 2015-11-06T11:56:43-05:00 Response by SFC Stephen King made Nov 6 at 2015 11:58 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-do-you-think-about-black-socks-now-being-allowed-with-the-pt-uniform?n=1092306&urlhash=1092306

Great we have now covered the most important issue to date in my humble opinion (#Humor)

No "no shows" however! It is absolutely a waste of time, and money. Especially considering that some enterprising young commander is going to make black socks MANDATORY for EVERYONE, so that all are in uniform. If you don't think it will happen then you've never been in the Infantry. PVT Robert Gresham Fri, 06 Nov 2015 11:59:11 -0500 2015-11-06T11:59:11-05:00 2015-11-06T11:43:31-05:00
