I'm not serving that individual, nor do I believe that individual is thanking me for my incremental contribution to their personal safety and freedom. I believe that our service to our nation is just that, and while I'm extremely happy that my generation does appreciate the blood, sweat, lives, and tears that we have given for them (sorry, PO2 Sharff, SSG Pride, et. al), it's the nation that thanks and rewards me every day by continuing to be the greatest nation in the world.<br /><br />When someone says thank you to me, I'm proud to say "It's my pleasure."

Impossible to do in a mere sentence or two, then I would try to distinguish those with genuine thanks in their heart and the rest either providing lip service or a conditioned response. So in the end it was taxes/welcome because if were honest , they won&#39;t ever really know that they are thanking us for. and that&#39;s not a bad thing
