What do you realistically feel would be an appropriate civilian salary given your management expierence

I currently work for a private security firm as a training manager and make ~$35K per year. I guess I had a greater expectation of what my management experience and business management degree would do for me as I transitioned into civilian life. Most of the offers I received prior to taking this position were mostly in sales. Not an avenue I wanted to pursue. Did I have unrealistic expectation of a salary of say 55-60k per year
