Quality, price, and the ability for the illustrator to go back and forth with the customer, providing proofs and adjusting the design on the fly until satisfaction is reached for a final design... Whenever a company says "pay me before I'll send you any artwork" I immediately switch to another company...

Although hard to decide with a "Gazillion" challenge coin companies out there.

Sam Carter I have Space Shuttle medallions that are high quality that I was awarded or bought at a good price. Price and quality will be foremost for most folks. I do not have any military challenge coins.

I suppose price and quality play into it. I have wondered if there's a preferred company out there with many units having their own coin. I was also curious, the coin for say a Battalion. Does the BC pay for it out of pocket or does the Army cover it? I imagine the BC.

I usually look for the best quality for the best price. I've seen some really fantastic coins but the cost was just way out of reach. Conversely, I've seen some pretty shoddy looking $2 coins.
