For example, I gave my oldest pair, passed on by the EN2 (Engineman 2nd Class) who mentored me when I first got here, to my best friend and one of my best Sailors. The 2nd pair, I gave to one of my EMFN's (Electrician's Mate Fireman) who just got advanced, and another pair to an MASN (Master-At-Arms Seaman) to hold on to until she makes it.

What do y'all do for when your people are promoted? What do you do for your Sailors/Soldiers/Marines/Airmen when they are promoted? 2014-06-11T15:44:52-04:00 PO1 Private RallyPoint Member 151293

I am finally taking some of the Crows off of my old uniforms, and have been giving them away to certain special Sailors. I think that is great that you are passing your crows down. One of the proudest moments in my career was when I pinned my CPO anchors that had been passed on to me by one of my Mentors on the collar of my protege when she made Chief. I already have a set of Senior Chief Anchors waiting for her. I have given books that are rich in Naval Heritage as gifts. A good one is "A Sailor's History of the U.S. Navy"by Thomas J Cutler Response by SCPO Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 13 at 2014 6:29 PM 2014-06-13T18:29:23-04:00 2014-06-13T18:29:23-04:00 PO1 Private RallyPoint Member 153628

OKAAAYYYYYY
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna look and sound like a non-PC dinosaur when I tell the truth....

When one of my sailors made rate - I took them out and got them blotto, smashed, totally pissing down drunk. Then I took them back to the barracks or ship and put them to bed. In the case of the female sailors I also took one of their female friends and I had another of my male friends with me as "backup". I made sure the promotee had fun, was protected from scumbags and got home safely. Then, since I was responsible for this idiocy, I was the "health and safety" check for said promotee - less the females (that's what their female friend was for). If the entire division (Navy division aka shop/workgroup, etc) went I made sure we had lots of designated drivers and the DD's were taken care of.

Of course...none of that is remotely possible these days......which is sorta sad. Most of those sailors are now part of the leadership in the Nav today - not bad for a bunch of reprobates.......
