Perhaps they should be limited to no more than 8 years, same as the President. For those who stay around too long, they tend to forget who sent them there and why they were sent to DC in the first place. The current House is a good example...other than impeachment efforts what have they really accomplished for the people?Response by MSgt Frank Askins made Sep 5 at 2019 7:58 AM2019-09-05T07:58:26-04:002019-09-05T07:58:26-04:001SG Private RallyPoint Member4993563<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>My Amendment to the Constitution would be to limit any federal office holder to a total of twelve years in any combination of House, Senate, or President/ VP. Then a 10yr wait to become a lobbyist after your last term, and then they should only get a partial retirement. even if they serve both terms. It amazes me how individuals go into office with almost nothing but come out with a net worth of millions, or a year or two after they all of a sudden have millions of dollars. This is not what the founding fathers had in mind. If they could see what is happening I think term limits among other things would have been included. NOT HAVING TERM LIMITS IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE BALANCE OF POWER: FROM STATE TO STATE, AND FROM STATE TO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. The issue of term limits was hotly debated by the founding fathers of the constitution (read the Federalist Papers) and they decided to not have term limits. Seniority in the house and senate is the only way that states with small populations (like Utah [my state], and Wyoming, N.Dakota, S. Dakota) have any power in the federal government. With term limits states with the most population and the most representatives (like California, New York, and Florida) will have all the power. They will have all the money. They will have all the programs. They will have all the military bases. Before one promotes term limits one should consider the original debates of the founding fathers, and the status in which those term limits would put their state of residence.Response by MAJ Matthew Arnold made Sep 5 at 2019 3:55 PM2019-09-05T15:55:06-04:002019-09-05T15:55:06-04:00SSgt Private RallyPoint Member4995522<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Yes please! They don't like going to work on a regular basis. They appear to be of the belief that the President works for them. They give themselves too many extended vacations, they constantly threaten to impeach our president. They can't get it through their Dem. head they lost to the master! But having lost to his mastry of the game. After have wasted President Trump's talent to fix the mess they had put our country through. Proof there is a desperate need for term limits, exactly written as the President's term is set, it could be two terms and vacate the seat!!!Response by LTC James McElreath made Sep 5 at 2019 10:04 PM2019-09-05T22:04:54-04:002019-09-05T22:04:54-04:002019-09-05T02:03:48-04:00
