What do 25U Privates generally do when fresh out of AIT?

I know it depends on what unit you go to, but as a 25u fresh out of ait do you jump right into the action doing your job, working with radios or do you tend to do other jobs before you get to work with radios? Do you have to work your way up and show that you are valuable before you can actually start doing your job?

Every unit is different. Would honestly depend on the NCO in your chain of command!

To better prepare for that day, I recommend reading TM's (or common tasks) about SINCGARS (VRC configs, max ranges), OE-254, COM-201, MBITR, RT-152s, and BFT / FBCB2.

Regarding IT (25U's can be IT help desk), CompTIA A+ level computer tasks via courses in Army Skillport.

Then read about Signal Corps history, branch insignia, RDI, other MOS's in the 24 and 94 CMF.

You'll learn that 25U is a very versatile MOS since you can be assigned any IT / TacComms position. Don't limit yourself to one or it will stunt your professional growth later.

Hey Jonathon,

Everyone has different experiences but I can tell you mine. When I got to my unit and I was fresh out of AIT I was tasked out to do all the "details" or extra work no one wants to do as I was brand new. After doing that I would usually be told to shadow the 25U's with more experience which were usually my SPC'S. I eventually learned a lot and was moved to a different unit where I learned even more from other 25U's and now I currently support my batallion. Most 25U's I've seen go to the batallion S6. If you are high speed and know your stuff and they don't have NCO's we usually get pushed down to the line companies where we fill a 20 level slot that usually NCO's fill. Hope this helps. Detail type work is just part of how the Army works. Get good a loading COMSEC in a radio, using the BFT or whatever equipment your section has. Becoming reliable for things like that will make you more visible when other, more technical work, becomes available. This is all in addition to being on time and being where you are supposed to be.

Take more classes and a lot of hands on training on your assigned equipment.
