What creature comforts are in your rucksack? I keep things light and down to the bare bones minimum. However, I carry with me one paperback book, and some family pictures.

Two rolls of toilet paper. One for my personal use. The other for trading for something that I want (or need). It's like having a wad of $20's in the field!

Here's one better for you: (Have to give credit to my ol' Ops Chief GySgt Francisco Robinson) Toward the end of the fiscal year (mid-September), we would send a requisition to our Supply Officer for 5-tons of toilet paper. We'd send an LVS (5-ton capacity Logistics Vehicle System --Marine's cousin to the HEMMT) to retrieve the order. It never came back carrying our requested 5-tons of toilet paper but, it did come back full. While everyone on Camp Pendleton was out of money in their budgets to buy necessities, we had toilet paper! By God, we traded that for everything from pogey bait, warm meals in the field, and repair parts). In fact, just when we were getting concerned about storage space, we swapped some of our stash for a CONEX box... problem solved. The CO was always amazed how we could keep a strong maintenance readiness AND be well under budget. I never revealed my secret until I had to submit a write up for his end-of-tour award.

GySgt Robinson retired as a MGySgt! To this day, I keep an extra roll in the trunk of my car... and it's still a topic of conversation when ever we talk. Regardless, glad I could help!

SSG (Join to see) In the day; I always had an ammo pouch filled with Swisher Sweet Cigars. Plug chewing tobacco, ‘Apple?’ occupies less space than a bag of Mail Pouch! Course you need a knife to share plug tobacco!
