Besides, at 2,900 to 3,500 pounds with booster they aren't practical for lugging around as a personal weapon. Maybe the original question needed clarification. All sorts of knives are carried around. I carried one for a while, so did others, and I was a SPC at the time. My other knife was an elk horn handled bowie knife my father who served in Vietnam made me for the deployment. Both were freaking awesome, but really not necessary. I would say unless you have some sort of mad fighting style that uses a tomahawk, it's more of a distraction. I used to ask to see their tote and chip cards (Former Boy Scouts will get it). Seriously though what are the chances of you actually using your hatchet for CQC... pretty slim in todays environment. You will however use it pretty frequently to cut MRE banding, shrink wrap and if you get one with a war hammer on one side it can be used to pound stakes or break padlocks. Local policy (like the Commander looking the other way) is what drives what anyone can carry. I have one of those o.d. "Viet Nam" hawks that Cold Steel has sold in the past. Its dead weight in the field. Might as well pack some clown shoes too. A swiss army knife (one with a saw blade) is light weight and useful. Multi tools may be more useful but probably not by much. Extra socks and moleskin are useful; tomahawks not so much. SSG Paul Headlee Tue, 08 Sep 2020 17:55:04 -0400 2020-09-08T17:55:04-04:00 2020-02-09T20:30:43-05:00
