We need to stop chipping away at our fighting spirit in favor of "politics". We need to stop adjusting "culture" to suit manning requirements, and return to adjusting incoming personnel to our culture. We need to fight to win...not maintain. Equipment won't fix lack of spirit and drive. We need leaders who will lead from the front, put their necks out, and make proactive decisions-on the battlefield, and in the barracks. At the end of the day, when all is said and done, the first mission of the military is to kill and defeat the enemies of our nation efficiently, consistently, and professionally. Anything that deters from that needs to be chucked over the side... This would include but not be limited to: an annual budget submitted on time, cuts in federal government size and spending (not just DoD), and federal employee accountability.
- Whole of government solutions to foreign problems (and not just military solutions).
- Within the military, achieve a better balance among the three poles of modernization, manning, and readiness.
- All of the above will improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our military in my opinion. That by itself would fix the vast majority of problems being faced by the military. Secondly, stand up and be a leader! We've had several Presidents over the last few decades, but we haven't had a REAL Commander and Chief in a long time. Set the example for the military. Provide a clear, concise, and realistic mission / objective for the military and ensure it received adequate financing to accomplish it. This can start by abolishing the Dept of Homeland Security because that is the job of the DoD (external - military / CIA / NSA) and DoJ (internal - FBI / local LEO).

Those few things would be an excellent start! Our European allies need to know that we actually have their backs, not just a lot of empty words, so we need at least one Division back in Germany....... at least one Armored Brigade, one Infantry Brigade, one Division Artillery unit, an Aviation Regiment and an MI and an ADA Battalion. Without these additions we are unable to support our allies in the case of tensions in Europe. PVT Robert Gresham Tue, 02 Feb 2016 04:58:31 -0500 2016-02-02T04:58:31-05:00 2016-02-01T09:38:06-05:00
