Marksmanship. <br /><br />How is it for promotion packets for E5 and E6, that Marksmanship and APFT carry the SAME point weight relative to the soldiers weapon qual or APFT scores but we will run the soldier into the ground for poor APFT and treat marksmanship as GO, or NO-GO, and not even really care there is no current weapon qual on record. I have never flagged a soldier for not having a current qual score. <br /><br />However, when it comes to promotions for Jr. NCO's they carry the same weight per the points allocation. What caused marksmanship to not be as important as APFT?2020-07-27T20:03:31-04:00CPT Private RallyPoint Member6148212<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Pet peeve. I qualified with my M16A1 every 6 months, same as mandatory APFT.Response by SPC Nancy Greene made Jul 27 at 2020 8:08 PM2020-07-27T20:08:32-04:002020-07-27T20:08:32-04:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member6148513<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>This is a solid question. PT is an everyday event and going to the range happens twice a year for most units. I would say that this is perhaps the reason why.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 27 at 2020 9:35 PM2020-07-27T21:35:34-04:002020-07-27T21:35:34-04:001LT Private RallyPoint Member6148535<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>It takes minimal planning a resources to run soldiers everyday. Planning a range takes time and resources. In general, people tend to take the path of least resistance. Fort Bragg has a qual range that runs three days every week to get Paratroopers qualified. We make sure that all of the Paratroopers we get to the unit have a current qualification. For us a Paratrooper can't go into a live fire and that is a unit readiness issue. I would honestly ask why your unit is treating it this way. When I was in the guard weapon quals were hard to come by and were only performed at AT.Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 27 at 2020 10:16 PM2020-07-27T22:16:31-04:002020-07-27T22:16:31-04:00MAJ Private RallyPoint Member6148874<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>So it’s funny. I just completed a study in my division in which I incorporated tons of soldier measurement data to determine the biggest predictors of Soldier “success” (as defined by some factors agreed along by the enlisted leadership) and the number one predictor was weapons proficiency.Response by MAJ Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 27 at 2020 11:14 PM2020-07-27T23:14:11-04:002020-07-27T23:14:11-04:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member6148921<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Because you can PT on your own time and it’s free. It takes resources, money, and dedicated training area to train marksmanship. Basically, failing marksmanship is a failure on unit training, failing PT is a lack of motivation on the Soldier.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 27 at 2020 11:35 PM2020-07-27T23:35:15-04:002020-07-27T23:35:15-04:00SSG David Kaelin6152088<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Lazy leadership.<br /><br />It's an easy way to falsely evaluate people.Response by SSG David Kaelin made Jul 28 at 2020 6:56 PM2020-07-28T18:56:23-04:002020-07-28T18:56:23-04:002020-07-27T20:03:31-04:00
