About the only thing you can do is work with the Soldier to lose the weight and inches to pass tape. The Commander is required to submit a packet for chapter once a Soldier fails twice in a 12 month period. Doesn't mean the Commander can't (try to) yank it back if the Soldier shows a passing tape prior to the packet being completely processed. If they had a medical exemption from ABCP they would be safe, if not, they are required to meet the requirements of 600-8. Having a knee injury doesn’t stop your soldier from eating healthy and doing exercises that don’t hurt the knee more Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 12 at 2022 10:20 PM 2022-04-12T22:20:16-04:00 2022-04-12T22:20:16-04:00 CSM Darieus ZaGara 7622107

Profile, surgery, none of it is an excuse. There are literally thousands of Soldiers with medical issues not failing tape. The lesson learned for you is “the time to become concerned fornanSoldier health and welfare is always, not just when they are in jeopardy.

I am not blaming you for everything, but NCO’s are responsible for their Soldiers. Someone should have been monitoring this Soldier. Everyone knew he was due to be taped. He will a likely take his slumps on the outside, you need to have learned several lessons from this. With that being said, you are constrained by the regulations, pretty sure, at least in my day, busting any tape counted as a Fail, regardless of when it was. Ultimately it's in the hands of your CO- you can help the SM plead his case to the CO and that's about all. I have a permanent profile because of my knees - I can still lose weight. Medical didn't "claim" anything - they likely told the truth that despite his knee injury he can still lose weight because he doesn't have a medical condition that causes weight gain. That's why they said that. People in your chain of command can come back and say, "What was I thinking, I put the wrong date," but that does not change the real change that needs to happen here. If the soldier wants to stay Army going before the man with a separation packet maybe exactly what they need as habits did not change in the last year. Help them come up with a nutrition plan...3% is way outside the line... I have always been taped, even in basic. I can tell you as a larger person, it is all about controlling your diet to control your weight. Now, to be fair, I have never failed tape, but it is due to my discipline in the gym and at the dinner table. A profile is no excuse to be over weight... I know that sounds harsh but it is true.
