Don't just hired them because it will make your company look better.Response by SSG Matthew Thomas made Nov 27 at 2013 10:29 AM2013-11-27T10:29:54-05:002013-11-27T10:29:54-05:00SGT Ben Keen12452<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Through my work in the Veterans' community here in the Greater Pittsburgh/Western PA area; I've had the opportunity to meet with several companies in the area and talk about this very subject. Some companies like PNC Bank, ATI, and others have some great programs for Veterans. Some businesses in the area activity seek Veterans and while the Veteran may not have all the qualifications the position needs, the company gives them a chance and trains them so the Veteran gets the skills he/she needs to be an effective member of the company. Some companies have groups set up for their Veteran Employees. These groups provide support and a knowledge exchange of how things work within the company. I've worked with some companies to help re-write their job postings to better target Veterans by trying to help certain skills learned in the military and translate them to the corporate world.Response by SGT Ben Keen made Nov 27 at 2013 11:09 AM2013-11-27T11:09:23-05:002013-11-27T11:09:23-05:00SPC(P) Tommy T.260914<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Finding companies that truly care and want you to be there can be challenging. Having a degree in Avionics, not to many. I looked for 7 months before graduating and still looking. Its sad that so many jobs claim to be Vet Friendly. I am open and honest about my number of Dr appointments and what my disabilities are. Most were very interested until I told them.... Most of them either never called back or had another excuse. No one ever came out and said it, but I'm pretty confident I know why. Some folks have told me to "Keep my mouth shut," but I was raised to be honest and open. But I was fortunate to be able to fall back on my mechanical skills and went to work as a Technician for American Lube Fast in Pensacola, FL. I know it may not be what some see as a "Top Notch Corporate job", but I enjoy my work and earn a good living. Even with the severity of my spinal injuries, I was reassured by all of our management that they were there to help. Mind you that the spinal injury I suffered in 2009 almost cost me the ability to walk. I still have lots of issues and I deal with them. I have been with the company for two months now, and I can say they are on point. There are quirks as with anywhere, but all in all, they really do care. Refreshing to see that even though it is a company, there to make money, their employees come first. Anyone else had similar with the same?Response by SPC(P) Tommy T. made Oct 1 at 2014 10:37 AM2014-10-01T10:37:09-04:002014-10-01T10:37:09-04:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member364960<div class="images-v2-count-2"><div class="content-picture image-v2-number-1" id="image-15943"> <div class="social_icons social-buttons-on-image">
