Its a known fact that criminals do not follow the law....they are criminals. Therefor, passing more stringent gun laws might end up causing more victims by taking guns out of the hands (or making them scared to arm themselves) of law abiding citizens. The fix has to start in the home, a stable home to raise children is the foundation of where the morals and values are taught. When we have a degenerated value system due to broken families of course it will lead to more severe problems in and around the communities across our country - the families have to want to fix it internally to be a meaningful, long term fix.

It's NOT a gun problem, it's a GANG problem. Politicians dont want to deal with reality because they are afraid of people who use race as an excuse. So until someone grows huevos, the problem will continue. Pass more laws to restrict law abiding citizens, but if the leadership dont address the lack of jobs, and how kids are being raised, nothing is going to improve.

They need to pass a law requiring all legal eligible people to own one firearm per household like Kennesaw Georgia did 16 or 17 years ago. Had a huge drop in crime and has remained low ever since.

KENNESAW, Ga - Several Kennesaw officials attribute a drop in crime in the city over the past two decades to a law that requires residents to have a gun in the house. In 1982, the Kennesaw City Council unanimously passed a law requiring heads of households to own at least one firearm with ammunition. The ordinance states the gun law is needed to "protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants." Then-councilman J.O. Stephenson said after the ordinance was passed, everyone "went crazy." "People all over the country said there would be shootings in the street and violence in homes," he said. "Of course, that wasn't the case." In fact, according to Stephenson, it caused the crime rate in the city to plunge. Kennesaw Historical Society president Robert Jones said following the law's passage, the crime rate dropped 89 percent in the city, compared to the modest 10 percent drop statewide. "It did drop after it was passed," he said. "After it initially dropped, it has stayed at the same low level for the past 16 years." Mayor Leonard Church was not in office when the law was passed, but he said he is a staunch supporter of it.

It's a socio-economic issue compounded by the closeness of people.

People (as in human beings) are only able to maintain about 100-150 relationships at a time. Anymore than that, and we hit sort of a "critical mass."

Now, what happens when you take LOTS of people, put them REALLY close together, and have them living in already bad conditions? The (individual) human mind can't take it, and the collective human organism can't handle it either. We go nuts.

Why do we have all these problems in Oakland, Detroit, Chicago, DC, Las Angeles, Houston, NYC.... What do they all have in common? They're high population density, combined with (relative) low income.

How do we fix it? Spread the people out. That's why we don't have the same level of (gun) violence in Rural Areas.

New mayor of Chicago, Cook County Board, and State Legislature who respect law enforcement and the US Constitution would go a long way. If they also made anti-corruption and anti - gang efforts serious priorities rather than just talking points, we'd have a comeback of epic proportions.

Contrary to current political blowhards and the cause-de-jour,
Chicago and cities like it have been corrupted by a culture that tells young men that lives DON'T matter.

When you think that life is just a day by day fight to take what you want (rather than work for it), and that a human can be tossed away like so much trash, it's not hard to understand the murder rate.

No other single piece of military hardware reminds a potential adversary of the nation-crushing potential power of US military capability. And, having that 90,000 ton can of Whoopass 201 miles offshore is impossible to ignore.

The city has been run by Democrats since 1931 and replete with corruption ever since. The issue is the Alderman have the power to make or break the Mayor, so he does nothing to remedy the slaughter. What it would take is a Mayor like Giuliani of New Youk and a Police Commissioner like the one they fired for being so tough, Leroy Martin. Unfortunately, that won't happen and the "murder capitol" will retain its title for more years than we will be breathing fresh air.

It's been this way since the 20's but steadily declining ever since. You can see a prominent division between the have and the have nots and it pisses a lot of people off. And the gentrification of pour neighborhoods back into upper middle class to where they once were displacs all the poor people which adds fuel to the fire and disperses them to the suburbs. That pushes the issues off to them with section 8 housing.
Instead we need to have and fund more programs to help them raise themselves up so they don't have to feel the need to resort to criminal acts. Police should help with that mission but they are too busy babysitting the ones who are out of control.
