What brand of roof top cargo carrier would you recommend that has a good balance of quality vs. price?

We’re about to PCS within the next couple of months from Texas to Colorado. We just bought a Subaru Outback, which has a decent amount of room, but we also have two dogs, which will take up a good amount of space. I’m thinking about picking up a roof top cargo carrier to get a little extra space. We have a kid on the way so I imagine we’ll use it on future family trips as well. The big names seem to be Thule and Yakima, but I’m open to suggestions of lesser known companies that don’t have the same name recognition but still offer quality equipment.

I got a secondhand Yakima rack several years ago and it has performed well since then through all four New England seasons. I can't speak for Thule, but so far these Yakima bars have been great and I'd probably buy them again if these ever go kaput.

Only if you are planning to use it a lot. Otherwise I recommend a small UHAUL.
