What I appreciate about this book is its review of the traits (JJ DID TIE BUCKLE) taught to all Marines and examples of those traits that have been displayed by various Marine NCOs. While reading I have taught to myself what traits am I still using t this day and where can I improve.

My question is what books or other sources have you used to center yourself and focus on what is important or where you can improve or for inspiration (other than family or religion)?

Semper Fi! General leadership? There are a TON of books on the subject. I am personally a fan of books that are pre-modern. There are too many snake-oil salesmen out there on leadership and motivation who are selling books with fancy catch phrases. My favorite book on leadership is by Marcus Aurelius. "The Meditations." You won't find cute acronyms. You won't find checklists on leadership. The book is formless and are the ramblings of a Caesar. If you're in to Simon Sinek, he's pretty good on the modern side. That being said, his books aren't as good as his actual lectures.
