Any MOS you pick will allow you to have a successful career and retire at 20 years. Some of the smaller jobs don't have that luxury. Any combat arms MOS (Infantry, Artillery, Cavalry, SF) will allow you to make E8 in under 20 years and E9 a little past that. If Career Progression is your primary focus, nothing promotes faster in any branch of service than Army Infantry.

Sorry, but Navy Nukes Submarine can make E-8 in an average of 12-15 years and then 9 is average of 16-19 years. Then you have SEAL's (SO) now that they go through Boot and start NSW program there average for E-7 is 8 years and then again around 12 for 8.

CPO (Join to see) by fastest I mean E1-E9. I didn't know about the Submarines, that is fast. Our SF and Infantry can make easily make E9 well before 20. A few years ago it was the standard to see Infantry make 7 in 7 E8 a few years later and E9 well before 20.

SFC (Join to see) - 7 in 7 is pretty quick, like I said the Sub guy's they are quick, but most come out of 24 months of school as an E-4 ready for 5 depending on what grade they came in. The Navy is funny, some can be quick and a good number can be slow depending on a lot of factors, remember we take test up till 7, then after that it is board. All that being said it's numbers you have more in Infantry then like the special fields in Navy and Airforce, so yes at average Infantry probably he fastest at an average by numbers.

The Ranger RGT promotes NCOs faster than most (or at least it did in the 80s). If you plan on remaining within the Special Ops or are planning upon passing into the Intelligence Community at some point, it can be a golden ticket. If you have your 'long tab' and are no longer assigned within the SO community, it helps or hurts depending upon your individual rater and whether or not they feel threatened by your achievement.
Special Forces can and does (most of the time) signal to a potential civilian employer that you are a team player, task oriented, and exceptionally well motivated. If your potential employer is very liberal or progressive (and let the news media do their thinking for them), they "may" consider you to be a potential Rambo-esque PTSD burnout and work place assassin. In this case it will be a hindrance.
A negative reaction is not common, but will depend to a certain extent on how much you talk about your experiences. The less you talk the better off you will be with everyone.

If I may add Sir and to the OP, a Long Tab almost guarantees a Federal job. Instead of you applying for Federal jobs and crossing your fingers as a non-SF Veteran competing against a 1,000 or more other Veterans, they will seek you out. Some Agencies will have access to all your records and know more about you then you even know. With a Long Tab you will get approached for Federal Jobs you never knew existed from all the Alphabet Agencies. Or even simply making six figures guarding the homes of the rich and famous. SF Tab will have a lifetime affect for you.

What are your goals as far as your career? Are you looking at making SF a career for you in the military? Are you looking to use it as a stepping stone to elsewhere to include the private sector and/or law enforcement? Need a bit more detail.
