What arrangements did you have for your kids who are with the other parent in another state?

Ex-Wife is active in the NG. I am Just very curious to see how others have dealt with the situation, I am a few weeks out from going to MEPS to enlist Active Army as a prior service recruit. Thanks.

After I got divorced I received orders to Bragg, so my kids stayed with their mom in Florida. I drove down twice a year every block leave and they stayed with me for two weeks at a time. When I got orders to Japan we agreed it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for them and so the kids came to live with me. After that I picked a spot close to her parents and she moved to the same state.

It will depend on who has more custody. The Army doesn’t recognize joint unless you have the higher percentage example 60 you 40 her. If she has more than you, you will have to live in the Barracks so it will be hard to ever have your kids. Meaning you will not qualify for bah with dependents
