What are your thoughts on the Retired Vet's benefits cutbacks?

<p>What are your feelings on this? From what I've seen, it has quite a few Service Members questioning whether or not they should stay in. I don't mean this to become a Red vs Blue discussion. I'm tired of seeing the Government try to whittle away at my retirement or benefits.  I just want to retire and get all the benefits that I was promised when I signed up. <br><br>Honestly, I think they should be contractually obligated to uphold their promises.  Any changes should only affect those who enlist AFTER the changes are made.  And if they have a problem with that, we should sue them for breach of contract.

I have an issue with Congress changing the "terms of the contract" after I met my obligation.  It really is an issue of honor and Congress seems to have less and less of it every year as the percentage of members with any military service decreases.  It's a sorry state of affairs.

It's disappointing that Congress attacks our retirement and leaves theirs alone. It's Big Brother syndrome. I think someone needs to get control of these appointed officials or in our next elections maybe they need some new ideas in Washington.

<p>We're always the easiest to put on the chopping block, granted it's been harder recently as more Americans pay attention to military members, but DoD and Congress are both willing to throw personnel to the side as a quick fix for budgeting issues.</p><p> </p><p>I'm nearing 10 years in and this has me angry, I spend 2 full decades of my life in dedicated service as I agreed to do, but they can't hold their ends of the bargain?  It's not a presidential level problem, it's a congressional level.  These career politicians who sit comfortably doing a lot of talking and no action need to be ousted.</p>

the American people, who dont know vet issues voted in these jokers in our US Congress, and to represent their Congressional Districts, things are all quiet. I have a retired National Guard CSM US Army and Democrat and he dont do squat about these cuts.

I never served a day thinking about what the Army would give me in return. I always knew I would become Dennis again...someone who needed a job and a place to make the talents I have shine for them. I am there now and still looking for that place with the safety net of a nurse for a wife and a hard earned retirement. Yes, I think we will see our benefits cut for a few more years and then the pendulum will swing back to rescue a few in the nick of time. I will never plan to be one of the lucky ones that the pendulum provides for and will strive to contribute and get back that which I am entitled to.
