The visuals were more up-to-date but overall they should have stopped at the third movie. Even my oldest son (7 year old and absolutely loves dinosaurs and owns the collectors edition trilogy box set of the first ones) said it wasn't the best. What are your thoughts on Jurassic World? 2015-06-16T00:22:40-04:00 2015-06-16T00:22:40-04:00 TSgt Jacob Sevdy 750259

I really enjoyed it. Yeah, it's a bit of a rehash of the first film, but it was fun to see what the park would be like if it were open. Especially if catastrophe struck. It's not just a handful of people fighting to survive now, it's thousands of folks. What's the contingency plan for that? You'd think a place like that would have an airtight plan. And I loved the idea of dinosaurs (raptors) being trained. Gave a new tense edge to the film. (Can they really be trained? Will they be loyal or turn on their masters?)

I also like that they explained the inconsistency with the dinosaurs' appearance and current real-world discoveries about their appearance. They had a line in there saying how they fill in the genetic gaps with other animals' DNA to complete the sequence and real dinosaurs wouldn't look anything like what they have in the park. That was the biggest plot hole of the series and they resolved it in a sentence.

Personally, I hated The Lost World and Jurassic Park III. It felt like they were deviating from the original story too much. They take place on another island with free-roaming dinosaurs and a weak plot. They just felt like poor excuses to get some people trapped on an island with prehistoric predators. Jurassic World feels more like a direct sequel to Jurassic Park, not only taking place on the original island, but actually completing and opening the park to the public. You could skip The Lost World and Jurassic Park III and not miss a thing of importance. The director doesn't care.
-- CGI used a bit *too* much.
-- The Mososaur is kind of a cop-out.
-- The movie's most hyped scene was basically a one-minute item leading up to a predictable switcheroo.
-- All the stated good guys live. All the stated bad guys die. No surprise there.

On the intriguing side:
-- Given the feathers thing, I'm glad the geneticist at least addresses it directly. He even says that *all* the dinos are technically hybrids (remember the frog DNA thing from movie 1?) which explains why they already look different from what we now know. I got an homage to the original, but done in a little different way.

For "kids" who didn't see the original 20 years ago, or those who have never experienced Jurassic Park on the big screen, this would be amazing, and would make you want and see it. For those of us who saw JP, it's not quite as good, but it's better than 2 & 3. I'm guessing that the few that didn't like it built it up in their heads before seeing it.

On a different note, the theater I saw it in had D-Box technology and every time a dinosaur roared or stomped on the ground my chair vibrated as if I was in the movie. Pretty neat technology and I hope to see utilized for other movies.
