What are your thoughts about the sudden change in gun policies at Walmart, Kroger, Walgreens and CVS?

I have never had an issue with people openly carrying their handguns and nobody has ever had and issue with me.
I think the whole thing is nothing more than a political stunt to fuel the flames of those who want to slowly strip away the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.

It used to be that if someone "open carried", everyone knew he was armed, and thought no more about it. If someone carried a concealed weapon, then the assumption was to think that he was up to no good -- that he wanted to sneak up on a victim and surprise them.
Now, "open carry" is considered an implicit threat, while concealed weapons are "polite". Concealed carry is considered being non-threatening, and "open carry" is at best the behavior of a show-off, at worst, a bully.
Times change.

It's all reactionary nonsense. Open Carry hasn't been an issue and suddenly the last had pounded in something. They've been hounding businesses forever and their provide dishonesty is paying off.

Businesses do what they think is in their best financial interests. I see no issue with this decision by any of them. If gun owners don't like it, we can take our business elsewhere and let the market dictate if those businesses made a good financial decision. If it wasn't, they'll change their policies.

You hit the nail right on the head. Although Walmart and like stores are demanding that open carry not be allowed doesn't mean that you can't carry concealed. They are bending to pressure from the wrong side and will definitely lose business. The fact that they will no longer sell certain kinds of guns and ammo means that other smaller gun stores will pick up the slack. Bass Pro, The Academy and other sporting goods stores other then Dicks usually have good prices on Ammo.

The politicians and the large corporate giants will do everything to strip us of our rights and make us subservient to the diabolical whims of the future governments if we the people let this happen... The radical left wants POWER over us as they think we need to be led down a slippery road to total government control...If you believe I am wrong, just take a look at what is happening in our Country, in our states and in our schools! Little by little our freedoms are being altered and removed without any apparent real opposition! I could write an epistle on this, but I am but one who sees the light...

From a law enforcement standpoint, people who open carry don't pose an immediate threat because you see the weapon as a pose to someone carrying concealed. It doesn't bother me to see someone open carry. I don't look at as a threat or slowing off just someone carrying a weapon.

These people caring about more gun laws, open carry, ARs and clip capacity are just part of a bigger plan to attack our gun rights. It's an out right attack at all levels of gun sales, gun types, ammo, ownership, number of guns a person owns, round capacity and purchase requirements. Now add in fed flag laws to the mix and you have a recipe for misuse and abuse. All with the intent to size guns by any mean possible.

We must stand up and defend our 2nd Amendment rights or they will disappear right before our very eyes.

I visited 2 of the 5 WalMart stores this week, and neither were very busy. Especially for the first week of the month.

In NC you are required to have a permit to ‘carry a concealed weapon’. Never saw anyone other than law enforcement openly carry their weapons into businesses. I think this issue is a direct result of the recent shooting sprees in Texas! As if those weapons were obtain d legally! Agree, it’s a political issue attacking our 2nd Amendment Rights!

Every establishment has a right to establish policy on firearms in there establishment. I have every right to decide if I’m going to shop there or not. If I don’t feel safe at their store, I won’t go and find another place.

I think they can do what they want and for their reasons, it's probably easier to remove and item and keep a certain view in the public. Another mass homicide, where did they get ammo from? Walmart. Charge them for aiding in the atrocity! But if they inform someone can't open carry and such, must be a way to ensure they don't receive negative views in the media.
Besides.....do we make rallies and arguments based off of unbiased, unskewed information gathered from all parties to make a reasonable and practical change? Or do we do it based off emotional responses and stimuli? Yep. Emotions. It's what, how it seems, the population uses to make decisions for others.

A lot of the issue is the untrained people who are carrying openly but don’t know the laws in their state!! When you get a concealed carry license you have to go through a course that teaches you the laws and also have to take a test as well as prove you can hit a target!! Too many idiots are open carrying and are acting aggressive and ignorant while carrying!! Lack of knowledge and lack of practice with the weapon is dangerous to everyone around them!!! These policies are for the safety of law abiding concealed carry holders as well as non carrying general public!! Criminals don’t carry holsters!!

In Georgia one can carry open or concealed with a weapons carry license. Personally, I prefer to carry concealed about 98% of the time. These businesses have the right to determine what is allowed in their place of business. I don't agree with it, but it's their choice. If they ban firearms completely, I stop doing business with them
On another note, in Georgia, except maybe in metro ATL, open carry rarely gets a notice. But sure as heck, some fool with a burr in the saddle area, will SWAT someone open carrying. So for me, it is just easier to carry concealed. Just my $0.02.

I have lived in Texas since the law changed to be able to open carry and rarely do I see anyone do it. Really to me it is a mute issue especially since they have to post 30.07 signs for the request to be within the law.
