Charles Caleb Colton once said, "Imitation is the sincerest [form] of flattery."

While this may be true, it's just not right when it comes to stolen valor regardless of who does it; active duty, reservists, veterans, retirees, or those who have never served.

"stolen valor" is considered free speech unless someone gets compensation.

Since these posers are attempting to gain "goodwill", and "goodwill" is a well defined non-monetary asset (you tend to shop in places with higher "goodwill") then why isn't "stolen valor" de facto compensation?
