One for the NCO to bring the attention on regards of the matter and to supply the SM with support and tricks to help them. The other mean of communication is the SM has to listen to what the NCO has to say and to apply it. A lot of SM won't listen because it's a different generation, they do what THEY want to do.

You just have to find that line where you can cross to get their attention for the SM to listen. In order for it to be strong and sturdy all three legs had to be equal in length and strength or it would tip over and crash. The tripod I am referring to is one leg was mental fitness--never stop learning...always strive to make yourself better...read, question, learn. The second leg was physical...have to maintain physical fitness for stress relief and lifelong balance. The third and final leg is the spiritual leg. Whatever that means to you. Every person is spiritual being, some protestant, some catholic, some jewish, some muslim etc etc...Get deep in to it and rely on it. It will carry you through any dark times that surround you. I went into more depth on each but you get the jest of it. If any of these are shorter than another it leans and puts stress on the others. They all have worked to remain in balance. I am an adult and responsible for myself. When I was a leader, I respected that the men in my command were adults and responsible for themselves. When corrective guidance was necessary and related to military life it was given. Their personal lives were THEIR personal lives until they made it my business. I respected that. I was always willing to give help when it was asked for, but not before.

I've hit a point very early in my life where I resent the hell out of do-gooders who want to tell me how to:

_eat better (I farm and with the exception of seafood, there is very little that I and my wife eat that we do not produce ourselves),
_get more exercise (I don't have time to jog because I spend about 5 hours a day on the business end of a shovel, pitch fork, or some other physical demanding task)
_get more rest, (I'm my own boss and I sleep until I am done)
_stop substance abuse, (I have never indulged in tobacco or recreational pharmaceuticals, I drink less than 12 beers and two bottles of wine a year)
_etc. etc. etc.. all of the topics in the pie chart above.

I recently had some 20something I had never seen before in my life, look in my grocery cart and point at a bag of sugar and tell me that say "Refined sugar is really bad for you" (My wife and I produce about 85% of the food we eat ourselves, on our farm.) To which I replied "Not nearly as bad for my health as giving me unasked for advice is for your health." For some reason she decided get in a different check out line.
