I have always respected Colin Powell, and while his points may be valid, they are not confined to the GOP alone

I am a fan of General Powell. I like just about everything he said in that interview. I especially like his advice to folks (everyone!) regarding how to behave when stopped by the police. That's solid advice, and I think if everyone followed it, we would have much less tension between the citizenry and law enforcement.

I respect GEN Colin Powell and like CMSgt Private RallyPoint Member mentioned it is not just the Republicans. In fact, the South in the 60's were very Democrat and they were responsible for the violence. Although President Johnson worked very much in the shadows with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to pass voter rights five months later.

Yes the dark vein in the GOP that got him all the way to Secretary of State, Condi Rice to national security advisor, Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court, JC Watts as a key Senator and Michael Steele s the head of the GOP just to name a few. The assertion is almost as absurd as who it came from unfortunately.
