What are the requirements for BAH while in BT?

A friend told me I should have my Lease agreement with me to receive the BAH. I am married.

Bring a copy of it to give just in case they screw you but from experience you do not need it. You have a dependent (your spouse) and they will go off of your zip code for your BAH. I didn’t have to provide anything other than birth certificates for dependents and marriage license which should be in your packet already.

Make sure you're recruiter puts your dependents in the system and you should be fine. If there is any hiccups with your wife receiving BAH/BAS then inform your drill sergeant and have them talk to/ take you to S1. I ran into this problem during basic and my senior drill sergeant said "the NCO creed makes it my responsibility to make sure your family is taken care of so that you can focus on being the best soldier you can be, and not issues at home" just remember, drill sergeant's are not your friends. But they are not your enemies. They are there to make sure you COMPLETE the training nessisary to be an effective soldier.

Bring a copy of your marriage certificate in the event there’s a hiccup with your paperwork. You will only receive BAH while in BT for your spouse. Since BAS is for the Soldier (not the family) You won’t start receiving BAS until you are completed with all your training and arrive at your duty station. Good luck to you...

Unnecessary advice. BAH is not awarded by the existence of any rent, lease, or mortgage. BAH is strictly awarded due to the fact that you have one or more dependents. The amount is decided by two factors 1) your zip code 5at your duty station and 2) your rank.

Bring your lease just in case it’s not processed properly in DEERs - it’s proof of residency and the fact you still maintain a household. They base BAH on zip code but they need proof of that zip code.
