We would need to find a 12N position in a unit with a vacancy to transfer into. LTC Leonard M. I would get my leadership time in first and then do special assignment. According to our Career Management Field, you need 24 to 36 months Squad Leader/ Section Sergeant time. If you were/ are a Squad Leader as an E-5 (P), once you make Staff Sergeant, that time did does not count. The board looks at your last 5 NCOER'S so get your 24 to 36 months done on the line and then get your special duty time. It's possible. Most of the slots are E6-7, and the majority of the BN's are only at 40-70% strength. I'd call your branch manger and have a talk. They are a low priority fill and your branch manager will have to review your record. You almost always have to be KD complete for your rank. In your case, you would need two years of rated time serving in a E6/squad leader position.
