Here at RallyPoint we recognise and know the true value of a veteran employee in the private sector. The skill, intelligence, candor and work ethic that he or she will bring to the new role. We put together an article for private sector companies and recruiters to check out some of the reasons that we think that veterans make excellent hires. There are only four reasons listed but we know that there are a lot more! What are some of the qualities and reasons that you have given employers or reasons that stand out to you?

Leadership, project management and accountability are drilled into you at every level E-1 to O-10. Plus dependability.

I would say from my experience that once a company hires a Vet, or realizes they have one as an employee, they want to find more. Believe it or not, a lot of companies are not always sure where they can find Vets for their open positions. AT&T has a great MOS translator which finds position. They know enough to consider the soft skills outside of the MOS.

Six (6) Character Traits that Make Veterans Great Employees:
1. Camaraderie: Teamwork is crucial for a business’s success, but too few people in the workplace know how to really work together as a team. Camaraderie is a crucial part of the military experience, and can be highly beneficial for employers who choose to bring these skills into the workplace.
2. Communication: Veterans have the ability to communicate a message quickly, clearly, and efficiently. Employers place high emphasis on strong communication skills, no matter what type of industry they work in.
3. Professionalism and Respect: All too often, workers tend to forget that just because their workplace has a relaxed atmosphere doesn’t mean they can get away with immaturity and unprofessionalism.
4. Ability to Perform in Stressful Situations: That means they’re less likely to crack under pressure even on the busiest or most stressful of days in the workplace, which can be crucial for industries that work with tight deadlines or sensitive materials.
5. Problem-Solving Skills: Members of the military are in the unique position of having to work to solve problems almost every day, which means that veterans have unrivaled problem-solving abilities when compared to others in the work force.
6. Leadership: Members of the military aren’t followers — they are true leaders, and this is something that can be critical in the workplace.

There are many reasons to hire a Vet....but I think the strongest trait we bring to the table is "Discipline".
