What are the laws, restrictions, and opportunities available for someone who served in another army/has dual citizenship?

I have served for 2 years, and currently hold citizenship for both the U.S and Israel.

I do not believe there are any laws nor restrictions against a US Citizen that served in the IDF wanting to join the US Military. About the only thing I could even begin to think of is that you may have to give up your Israeli citizenship.

Now, you may very well require a waiver, plus your background check may raise some eyebrows. But, who knows really.

Your best bet, if you have not done so, is make contact with a Recruiter and raise all of these questions and concerns with them. Personally, I'd think someone that served in the IDF would be a great asset to the US Military.

We have a lot of people serving who have served in friendly nations. I have friends in the US Army who have served in the British and German military. One even became an officer.

I met an Australian who had served in both the Australian Army and the US Army. Was here on a green card, not a citizen

I've known and served with several individuals who prior to being in the US military served in other militaries in other countries. There could be a red flag or a waiver required with it being Israel but there isn't a hard rule anywhere that states that anyone who served in another countries military is blacklisted. Speak to a recruiter and get away from gossip. There may be another reason your friend wasn't allowed to join.
