What are the impacts of an MEB with over 21 years of active service? Pros and/cons?

I could have sworn that someone who is longevity retirement eligible who is found not fit for service through the MEB process just ends up with a regular retirement, anyway. If that is the case, then it is a decision of whether you want out of the Army sooner, or want to stay in as long as you can. If the former, retire. If the latter, roll the dice with an MEB, you may even be found to be retainable (and if not, the process is sure to take longer than retirement with how fast this paperwork has been moving, lately).

I had this happen to a guy at my unit. I think the way it worked out was that he medically retired, with the normal active duty retirement, but almost all his pay was disability and therefore tax free.
