What are the goods and bad of Fort Bragg? Open to all opinions and experience.

I loved bragg for the 6 years i was there and trying to get back there after my current assignment.

Other than fayetteville, you can find some great nice places to live. You can do quick trips to the beach or up to the larger cities in NC.

What unit are you going to? My first assignment was the 82nd, wasn't a huge fan of it as a private ha, but that was due to bad leadership and would not mind going back now. I then did some time in USASOC which was a phenomenal assignment.

Pros:
It’s a great place to start.
Good gyms.
You’ll pt.
You’ll get your jumps.
You’ll more than likely deploy.
Not to far from the beaches.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though, so you’ll find your own pros.
Cons:
Number of occupants on Bragg is very high now, I don’t have exact numbers.
Traffic.

Very pro military and diverse community, close close to the beaches and mountains are the top pros for me. Crime is an issue here however as with other places being aware of your surroundings is always a good way to help stay safe.

Pros
Raleigh/ Charlotte aren’t a very far drive
Beach is close in the summer
Mountains are close in the winter
A lot of opportunities to go to a SOF selection
Senior NCO’s from SOF units
Plenty of high quality gyms

Cons
Very busy base personnel wise
Fayetteville doesn’t have a huge amount to do

Overall a decent place to be at, but if you’ll enjoy your time here or not is really up to you.

BAD: Fayettnam... The Bragg Community is right below Hood on the "Ghetto/Ratchet" base analysis scale.

A things considered Fort Bragg was one of my best assignments. As all.of mentioned places to go and things to do are available. Know your surroundings.

I was stationed there with the 82nd from 95-98, high tempo but a good post. I went back a couple years ago, Fayetteville has definitely grown. Raleigh isn't too far also, and like someone else said beaches aren't too far, so you're not totally land locked.

Enjoyed the base itself. Lots of open areas that we could access for running, etc. Unfortunately when I was there, barracks were rundown, family housing was minimal and in a general state of disrepair. Post facilities like bowling allys,etc were readily accessible to all. Hospital was rates as one of the worst of all Army Bases. Doctor's were sub par, and only did what was absolutely necessary. When you were seperating from active duty, all of the sudden, your knee pain was real, and needed immediate surgery to enable you to walk. Over all it was a good duty station, and I enjoyed my time at Bragg.
